This summer has been an amazing one—almost too much to report, but I’ll try.
I taught for Rutgers in the first and third summer sessions, first Art Appreciation online for non-majors, and most recently, Drawing Fundamentals. Both classes were a lot of fun to teach but kept me busy between weekly essays on the one hand and drawing exercises from 2-point perspective to figure drawing on the other! Now I’m preparing to co-teach the BFA Thesis Exhibition with Gerry Beegan, and it promises to be exciting with the BFA Annual (Water themed), and then in the spring, the BFA Thesis exhibitions. I’m also preparing for the school year myself, and will report on the classes I’ll be taking in the next post.
If you’re in the area, I hope you have a chance to see either or both of the following shows!

It’s been a while since my last update, so I have several new works to show you. I’m continuing with a night palette, and have been exploring working with chromatic blacks. I’ve also been digging deeper into my subjects to hone my focus. Maintaining the immediacy of the material quality is also a current goal, so almost all of the following paintings were made while the paint was continuously wet.
Temple, Oil on linen, 30" x 90"
Checkpoint, Oil on linen on panel, 16" x 48"
Reflection before Projection, Oil on paper, 24" x 45"
Family of Verticals, Oil on wood panel, 16" x 12"
In Bloom (at night), Oil on wood panel, 12" x 16"
Climb, Oil on wood panel, 12" x 12"
Point of Entry, Oil on linen, 18" x 18"
Dark Gel, Oil on paper, 45" x 12"

Earlier this summer, I made a trip to CA to reunite with Tyson at the close of his residency at the Headlands, and to get some good time in with fam & friends. Here are some awesome times recorded “on film.”

After staying in San Francisco for four days, we headed to visit our dear friends Amber & Teejay in Davis (near Sacramento).
Inspiring.

Hanging out at their awesome cottage.

We also headed down to Santa Cruz to visit with Tyson's relatives.
Look what I found on Tyson's grandma-Nona's sofa.
And then on to Napa to visit my family! Here we are at Mumm, where my bro's girlfriend Emily works.
Very nice weather.
There's Emily!
And some wine-tasting at James Cole, where our good friend Ben works.

Summer has been amazing, delightful, challenging, inspiring, productive, and so much more. Thanks to my friends and family for all the good times!!!
And now, my primary objective is to finish up my Fulbright application (to Berlin for 2011-12), and start the semester right!
Best wishes to Everyone near & far,
